Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave for a two-day visit to Israel from Wednesday. His visit is going to be important in many ways. But before this visit of PM Modi, a new alliance seems to be forming in Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has proposed a hexagon alliance. He says that Hexagon alliance is necessary to counter Middle East fundamentalist forces.

Apart from India, Netanyahu has included India as a core partner in this alliance. IsraelGreece and Cyprus have been described as major partners. According to Netanyahu’s statement issued by Israel’s Foreign Ministry, many Arabic, African and Asian countries may join this alliance. This announcement has come at a time when tension between Israel and Iran is increasing. At the same time, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have joined hands for a NATO-like treaty, in which there is talk of Türkiye also joining.

Netanyahu has described this initiative as strategic and important from the future point of view. On his invitation, Prime Minister Modi will go on a state visit to Israel on 25–26 February. According to the Ministry of External Affairs of India, this will be Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to Israel. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs said that during this visit, the two leaders will exchange views on regional and global issues on topics of mutual interest.

What is Netanyahu’s Hexagon alliance?

Israeli PM Netanyahu presented the blueprint of this alliance in the cabinet meeting on 22 February. He said that we will create a whole system of alliances around or within the Middle East. This will include India, Arab countries, African countries, Mediterranean countries (Greece and Cyprus) and some countries of Asia, which I will not mention in detail right now. I will present it in a systematic manner.

Netanyahu said that the aim is to bring together countries that have a similar vision regarding reality, challenges and goals in order to counter fundamentalist forces, whether they are fundamentalist Shias, whom we have attacked harshly, or Sunnis. All these countries have different approaches and our cooperation can give big results. With this it can secure our stability and future. This framework has been prepared with the aim of deepening security, intelligence exchange and defense cooperation.

Why is this proposal of Netanyahu important?

benjamin netanyahu The proposal of this Hexagon Alliance is being considered important because it is an attempt to formalize the strategic change already going on in West and South Asia.

The potential India-UAE-Israel-Greece cooperation has been discussed before, but this is the first time it has been presented as a public and clear strategic principle. Netanyahu has also made the intention of this initiative clear by naming his potential opponents. After the strategic mutual defense agreement signed between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in September 2025, the turmoil in regional equations has intensified. Many analysts have named it Islamic NATO.

Netanyahu directly presented this proposed alliance as a counterweight. The hardline Shia alliance mainly refers to Iran and its allies such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthi group.

This alliance is also important because it indicates moving beyond just bilateral relations. India, the UAE and Israel have been cooperating for years, including through frameworks such as the Abraham Accords and the I2U2 group. However, till now there has been no formal security treaty.
