Piyush Goyal assures supply chain support to Gulf counterparts | India News
New Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Dr Piyush Goyal Discussed with his counterparts from UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council and assured India’s support in addressing supply chain challenges, especially food. During his call, he stressed the need to maintain peace in the region, which has been under attack by Iran, which has hurt countries for their perceived closeness to the United States. In view of the large Indian diaspora in the Gulf region, the minister also expressed appreciation to the government for the assistance extended to them during the crisis. “The UAE’s proactive logistics system”, including the opening of alternative routes and multi-modal transport, also came up for discussion during the minister’s call with his counterpart Thani bin Ahmed Al Zayoudi as Dubai ports account for nearly a quarter of global goods trade from India, which has been disrupted since Iran responded to the Tehras-Strait attack by the US. Countries in the region are a key source of energy and a major market for Indian goods and services.
