NEW DELHI: Parliament is likely to adjourn on a fixed date when the ongoing session ends on April 2 and not sign die, as is the practice, as the government intends to reconvene the two houses to introduce the women’s reservation bill in directly elected legislatures from the next Lok Sabha elections.“We are likely to announce the date for the meeting next week after the adjournment of Parliament,” a senior government official said on Saturday.Still in talks between the government, Parliament is likely to meet after elections to four states and one union territory are over on April 29.A fixed date for Parliament sitting to discuss what could be two bills, one to cap the 2011 census and the other to amend the constitutional provision to introduce a one-third women quota for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats, will convey the government’s determination in no uncertain terms. This will add to the buzz during assembly elections, with parties diligently wooing women voters will be an added advantage for the ruling NDA.
