New Delhi: Union Home Minister Dr Amit Shah Criticizing the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), it said on Monday that no “Hindu” refugee would lose citizenship in West Bengal. The state goes to the polls this year, and infiltration remains one of the key political flashpoints, setting the stage for a heated contest between the BJP and the TMC.“They opposed the CAA. If Mamata Banerjee If the CAA had not been opposed, every Bangladeshi refugee would have been granted citizenship. But I am here to tell all the Hindu refugees that you need not worry. BJP government is here for you. Not a single Hindu refugee will lose their citizenship,” Shah said while addressing a ‘Parivartan Yatra Sabha’ rally in Mathurapur.He raised the Babri Masjid issue and called Mamata’s move to move Humayun KabirWhoever promised to build mosques in the state, is a ‘conspiracy’.“Mamata Didi, Babri Masjid is being built again in your Bengal. Whose responsibility is it? Should Babri Masjid be built again? Humayun Kabir and Mamata are the same. Mamata Banerjee has conspired to build Babri Masjid by expelling Humayun Kabir from the party, so that Hindus will not get angry”.He accused the TMC government of “politics of appeasement” by promising to build temples. “They have filled Bengal with infiltrators because they see their vote bank in it. Without appeasement, Didi does nothing. Now they are thinking of building temples. Mamata Didi, we built Ram Mandir. We built Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and Mahakal Corridor. You did nothing then. Now, you want to build temples.” People of Bengal will not be cheated by you. But I welcome him despite the motive behind building the temple,” he said.The Pravyan Yatra is a large-scale, state-wide campaign for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. It will span over 5,000 km, comprising 63 major public meetings and 282 smaller events, and will culminate with a mega rally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.
