New Delhi: Janata Dal (United) supremo Dr Nitish Kumar He was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP on Friday, months after taking oath Bihar Chief Minister in record tenth term.Kumar’s move to the upper house, which surprised many when it was announced last month, paves the way for the BJP, a JD(U) ally, to become the first chief minister in Bihar. After being elected to the Rajya Sabha, he resigned as a member of the State Legislative Council. However, it is not clear when he will step down from the post of Chief Minister.According to senior JD(U) leader Shravan Kumar, constitutional provisions allow a person to continue as chief minister for up to six months despite being elected to the Rajya Sabha.The BJP emerged as the largest party after the JD(U) in last November’s Bihar assembly elections, as their ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a landslide victory.(more details to follow)
