New Delhi: Amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its impact on energy supplies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday warned of possible attempts by “certain elements” to exploit the situation to jeopardize India’s internal security. He, however, assured that security and law enforcement agencies are already on high alert to detect and avoid such designs.Drawing the Rajya Sabha’s attention to the internal security dimension of the West Asia crisis, Modi informed the members that security is being strengthened in all domains of the country – coastal, border, cyber and strategic installations.
“Whether it is coastal security, border security, cyber security, or strategic installations, security is being strengthened,” he said while briefing the House on developments in West Asia.The Home Ministry last week advised all states and Union Territories to strengthen the security of related infrastructure and personnel to protect the LPG supply chain, monitor LPG supply on daily basis and stop rumors in real time to avoid any panic.Sources told TOI that all states / UTs were advised to take strict action against hoarding and black marketing of LPG/gas supply and conduct awareness campaigns to counter fears and rumors about LPG shortage.Sources said states/UTs were asked to closely monitor social media platforms and take immediate steps to remove fake news and false narratives about an alleged LPG shortage by circulating outdated or unrelated material.Incidentally, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) recently detected a cyber scam where fraudsters are sending fake “Gas Booking Update” APK files through WhatsApp. Installing these files can hack one’s phone and drain their bank account instantly, I4C warned while advising LPG customers to stick to official booking applications.
