India has condemned the attack on the Thai-flagged cargo ship Mayuri Nari in the Strait of Hormuz, confirming that the ship was en route to Kandla port in Gujarat. It condemned the targeting of the commercial ship amid the ongoing conflict.The foreign ministry said in a statement that targeting Thai cargo ships and endangering the lives of innocent citizens should be avoided. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared X’s position with the caption, “Statement regarding vessels bound for Kandla, India.”It said, “We have seen reports of an attack on a Thai ship, Mayuri Nari, in the Strait of Hormuz on March 11. The ship was bound for Kandla, India. India condemns commercial shipping being targeted for military attacks in the ongoing conflict in West Asia.”It condemned the loss of innocent lives in recent attacks, including two Indians, while one went missing, and criticized the increasing intensity of attacks.“Precious lives, including those of Indian citizens, have already been lost in multiple attacks in the earlier stages of this conflict, and the intensity and lethality of the attacks only seem to be increasing,” it said.It called for the exclusion of commercial ships from attack.“India reiterates that it should avoid targeting commercial shipping and endangering innocent civilian crew members, or otherwise obstructing freedom of navigation and commerce,” the statement said.A Thai-flagged commercial ship was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, which was en route to India. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards later claimed responsibility for the attack.The Thai Transport Ministry said in a statement that three of the 23 crew members on board were missing.
