Eight women laborers were killed when a truck collided with a truck on the Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway in Maharashtra’s Jalna district where they were standing. Police said the accident took place on Samriddhi Highway in Jalna when the workers were waiting in a side lane to finish work when a truck which had changed lanes rammed it from behind.“Seven people died as a result of this tragic incident. Six or seven others were seriously injured… Police have taken the truck driver responsible for the accident into custody. Police have registered a case of culpable homicide against him and further legal action is being taken including arresting him…,” said Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Bansal, JNA. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis described the accident as “extremely sad” and offered condolences to the victims and their families. “The accident on Samriddhi Highway in Jalnar is very tragic, resulting in 8 deaths. My condolences to the victims. Our thoughts are with the families. The injured are being treated, and the local administration is coordinating. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police are on the spot. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the family will be paid Rs 5 lakh. Fadnavis said through a post on X.
