Lapsed 5% Muslim quota in Maha formally nullified | India News
Mumbai: After eleven years of BJP-Sena led government Devendra Fadnavis Abolishing the 5% Muslim quota in government jobs and education, the Mahayuti government scrapped a notification outlining the process for issuing caste validity certificates for the quota. Officials said the long-delayed process was completed after a question was raised in the last state assembly session. A 5% minority quota was introduced by the Congress-NCP government in June 2014. However, the ordinance lapsed by December 2014 as it was not converted into a law under the Fadnavis-led BJP-Sena government. The application to the High Court resulted in the suspension of the employment quota. In March 2015, the Fadnavis government formally issued an order revoking the ordinance. However, a circular regarding caste validity certificates for minorities issued by the Department of Social Justice was ignored. This circular is now cancelled. “It’s just a formality,” said an official.
