Kingpin of reptile smuggling ring caught in Kanpur

New Delhi: In a major blow to an organized illegal wildlife trafficking network, the MP State Tiger Strike Force, in coordination with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, on Sunday arrested the kingpin of the reptile smuggling racket, Tarak Nath Ghosh, from Kanpur, reports Biswa Mohan.Ghosh, part of a gang run by Chennai-based international wildlife trafficker Manivannan Murugesan, is wanted in three cases of international illegal trade in tortoises and gharials registered in MP.Murugesan was arrested in 2018, but Ghosh remained absconding. “He operated from Kolkata and smuggled gharials and turtles to Bangladesh after collecting them from the Chambal and Yamuna rivers,” said an official.
