Kilometrage allowance hiked by 25% for train crew | India News
New Delhi: Effective from January 2024, Indian Railways Kilometers in Lieu of Kilometers (ALK) Allowance and Allowance rates increased by 25% for all running workers across its system. The updated rates will benefit over two lakh railway employees including loco pilots, assistant loco pilots, firemen, guards and other running staff. This decision was taken after dearness allowance was increased by 50%.While other Indian Railways employees had earlier received an increase in traveling allowance, the kilometer allowance has remained stagnant so far, leading to discontent among the affected employees. All India Loco Running Staff Association and Railway Federations raised the issue.“The amendment will benefit running staff across Indian Railways by ensuring better compensation commensurate with the current dearness allowance levels. It reflects Indian Railways’ continued commitment to the welfare and financial well-being of running staff, who form the backbone of its operations,” an official statement said. TNN
