New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Keynes Technology’s Rs 3,300-crore semiconductor plant at Sanand GIDC in Ahmedabad was inaugurated on Tuesday, marking the country’s second such facility that will push forward the semiconductor manufacturing plan.The plant is part of Semiconductor’s mission and is expected to strengthen domestic chip manufacturing capacity. Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s greater ambitions in the sector, positioning the country as a reliable player in the global semiconductor supply chain. He added that India is not only witnessing global changes but preparing to lead them, and pointed to the launch of Semiconductor Mission 2 in the latest budget to boost self-reliance across the manufacturing sector, according to PTI. “21st century India is not only witnessing change, but moving forward with the determination to lead that change. We launched Semiconductor Mission 2 in the last budget to make India self-reliant in every aspect of its manufacturing,” the Prime Minister said. According to PTI, the Prime Minister also said that India’s decision to join the Pax Silica initiative will help strengthen access to key minerals required for semiconductor manufacturing.According to Gujarat Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia, the facility will produce more than 7 lakh chips per day. “In the semiconductor manufacturing chain, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tomorrow happily inaugurate the Rs 3,300-crore Keynes Semicon plant. This will be the second plant in the series and the facility will produce more than 7 lakh chips per day,” he said ahead of Monday’s launch.“He added, “With this second unit, we are entering the era of this futuristic industry. PM’s USP is the ability to turn challenges into opportunities,” he told ANI.The inauguration comes weeks after Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Micron Semiconductor plant in February. Referring to the pace of that project, he said, “The MoU for this facility was signed in June 2023, the foundation stone was laid in September and by February 2026, commercial production had already started. Even in developed countries, such approvals and processes take years, but India has completed this seemingly impossible task in just 900 days. When the objective is clear, and the focus is on rapid national development, policies become decisive and decisions naturally accelerate,” ANI reported. Earlier in the day, the emperor also recently inaugurated the museum at Koba Tirtha in Gandhinagar on the occasion of Modi Mahavir Jayanti. Named after Emperor Samprati, grandson of Ashoka, the museum focuses on the historical and cultural legacy of Jainism.
