In Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi salutes infant organ donor, urges nation to embrace gift of life | India News
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday used the 131st episode of his monthly radio program Maan Ki Baat to highlight the power of organ donation, sharing the story of a one-year-old child from Kerala whose parents chose to donate his organs after his death.“There is no greater sorrow than a parent losing their child,” he said, referring to Aline Sherin Abraham. He spoke of the unimaginable grief of losing a child at such a young age, with his whole life ahead of him. Yet, amid that pain, her parents, Arun Abraham and Shereen, decided to donate their daughter’s organs – a decision she described as an act of immense courage and humanity.PM Modi said their choice reflected strength and compassion in the face of personal tragedy. Allin may no longer be with us, but his name has been added to the list of youngest organ donors in the country, he noted.Turning to the broader picture, he said awareness of organ donation in India is steadily increasing, helping patients in need while strengthening medical research. He cites examples of transplant recipients who have led active lives.Lakshmi Devi from Delhi completes 14 km trek to Kedarnath after heart transplant. Before receiving the donor organ, his heart was functioning at only 15 percent. West Bengal’s Gauranga Banerjee visited Nathula at 14,000 feet above sea level twice after a lung transplant. In Rajasthan, Sikar’s Ramdev Singh, who underwent a kidney transplant, is now active in sports.“These inspiring examples show how a noble decision can change the lives of many,” the Prime Minister said, urging citizens to see organ donation as a collective responsibility. The appeal created through stories of loss and renewal reinforced a simple message: A single decision can give someone else a second chance at life.
