Gujarat Police aspirants’ heights ‘shrink’, HC orders recheck | India News
AHMEDABAD: Aspiration to walk tall and proud in khaki has been “shrunk” after running with a tape measure. Several police job aspirants in Gujarat have approached the High Court after failing to display their full height in the latest recruitment drive, falling below the mandatory 165 cm (5.4 ft) cut-off, despite clearing the same criteria earlier. Confusion arose during the physical fitness test, where candidates measuring 165 cm or more were disqualified during the 2024 recruitment drive. Authorities, recently said, there is a record shortage of candidates. Among the applicants: Tushar Valia and Govind Sindhav of Gandhinagar, Pappu Parmar of Banaskantha and Mukesh Chauhan of Ahmedabad. All had re-applied for various police posts and previously cleared the heights. This time they got the short end of the stick. As the petitions were filed before the High Court, Justice Nirjar Mehta added a filter: Each petitioner must deposit Rs 10,000 with the court registry, refundable if the claim is valid. To settle the inches-versus-centimeters debate, the High Court ordered new measurements conducted under strict medical supervision. Candidates must appear at GMERS Civil Hospital Solar on 19th February with proof of deposit. The concerned hospital authorities have been directed to arrange and facilitate the process. Transparency in the process is non-negotiable. The bench said “the entire exercise will be videographed and a report will be submitted to this court on a returnable date of February 23”.
