New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary on Friday.In a post on X, PM Modi recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, his emphasis on Swadeshi and his enduring inspiration for a self-reliant India.“My deepest respects to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary. Reverend Bapu always laid great emphasis on Swadeshi, which forms the basis of our resolve for a prosperous and self-reliant India. His life and work will forever inspire his countrymen to follow the path of duty,” he said.India observes Martyrs’ Day every year on January 30 to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary and to honor his contribution to the country’s freedom struggle.A formal program to commemorate the day has been scheduled on January 30 at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Site in Rajghat. Several dignitaries are expected to attend the event.In view of the event, the Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory and announced heightened security measures in parts of central Delhi. As suggested, traffic diversions may be implemented as per need at important intersections including ITO Chowk, Delhi Gate, Guru Nanak Chowk, Shantivan Chowk, Rajghat DTC Depot and IP Flyover.Traffic restrictions, regulations and diversions may be enforced on several arterial roads and nearby stretches between 9 am to 12 pm to ensure smooth conduct of the event and public safety.Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse at the Gandhi Memorial at Birla House on January 30, 1948, a few months after India’s independence.
