Film Title Controversy Court Demands New Name; Pandits Object

Controversy is increasing regarding Manoj Bajpayee’s film Ghooskhor Pandat. On Thursday, the Supreme Court asked Netflix and filmmaker Neeraj Pandey what new name they want to change the name of the film and reply to the court by 12:30 pm.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court reprimanded filmmaker Neeraj Pandey and said, you cannot insult any section of the society by using such a title. This is against morality and public order.
The court also said, such names are often chosen only for publicity, so that controversy can arise. The film will not be allowed to release until you tell us the new title.
The Supreme Court has also ordered Neeraj Pandey to file an affidavit, in which it should be clarified that the film Ghooskhor Pandit does not insult any social class. The next hearing of the case will be on February 19.
When and how did the controversy start?
Let us tell you, on 03 February 2026, Netflix also announced Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ by releasing the teaser. But as soon as its teaser was released, controversy started regarding its title. People took to the streets. After this the matter reached the court.
In the teaser, Manoj Bajpayee is seen in the role of Senior Inspector Ajay Dixit, who is known as ‘Pandit’ in Delhi. The film depicts him as a disgraced police officer. According to the teaser, Dixit was recruited as SI 20 years ago and due to his exploits, he was repeatedly demoted.
At different places, Brahmin community has filed complaints against Netflix’s ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’. Apart from this, Mumbai lawyer Ashutosh Dubey alleges that associating a respectable word like ‘Pandit’ with corruption is not only irresponsible but also hurts the dignity of the entire community. The notice states that the film is deliberately trying to tarnish the image of a community.
This is not just creative freedom but harming the reputation of a community in the name of art. He says that the name of the film has been kept only with the intention of spreading sensation, in which social sensitivity has been ignored. Along with this, the lawyer has also demanded to change the name of the film.
