Elvish Yadav and Jiya Shankar are returning to the audience with their new show ‘Engaged: Roka Ya Dhoka’. The show is based on the theme of giving love a second chance, where relationships will be judged not just by attraction, but by understanding, trust and commitment. In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, both the artists shared their respective definitions of love and told how the challenges of relationships have changed in today’s era. The show will also see drama, emotions, family interaction and rituals like roka, which makes it different from the usual dating reality shows. Question: What is love for both of you? Answer/Elvish Yadav: I will not give the clichéd answer that love is just friendship. Love is friendship, but it is much more than that. It is a mixture of many emotions. When you start putting the needs of the other person above your own and thinking about how he or she will feel, that is love. Jiya Shankar: For me there is no single definition of love. Love can be for a person, for one’s work, for things or even for animals. We have also loved our show a lot. The definition of love is different for every person, and it is only as deep as you feel it. Question: Your show is coming on Valentine’s Day. What kind of love is this? Answer/Jiya Shankar: This is love giving a second chance to love. This is what we have shown this season. Elvish Yadav: It shows love as well as problems in relationships, fights and how to resolve them. There are a lot of emotions, a lot of fun. To me, love is when you put the other person’s happiness and needs above your own. Question: Will there be no drama this time? Answer/Elvish Yadav: Why won’t there be drama? There is definitely drama. Jiya Shankar: There are fights and discord in every house. We call it drama, but that is also a part of relationships. This show is full of emotions and drama. Question: Tell us about the three phases of the show? Answer/Elvish Yadav: In the beginning our love-seeking contestants come. They understand each other and test their compatibility. A love test takes place between them to see whether they can get along or not. In the second phase they have to become serious. Now they decide to move forward with one person. The round of searching here and there ends. Jiya Shankar: In the third stage, during dinner, they are asked whether they want to take the relationship to engagement (Roka) or not. At the end the families also get involved and the process of engagement is shown. There is no winner here, only true love wins. Question: Whose idea was the picture of the ring that went viral? Answer/Jiya Shankar: It was part of the promotion of the show. The name of the show itself is ‘Engaged’, hence this plan was successful and created a buzz among the people. Elvish Yadav: It was discussed a lot. People made their own guesses. Question: Have you given love a second chance in real life? Answer/Elvish Yadav: Yes, absolutely given. I believe that one should never lose faith in love. Even if a relationship breaks, life can blossom again. Love is what runs the world. Jiya Shankar: (jokingly) He has given many opportunities. Question: What will you do differently as host? Answer/Elvish Yadav: People have seen my funny and roast side, but this show will also see my serious and positive side. We guide both participants. Jiya Shankar: We have advised the participants seriously. This is not just entertainment, but a test of true relationships. Question: What qualities should an ideal partner have? Answer/Jiya Shankar: There is no fixed list. Understanding, trust and mutual coordination are most important. Love can happen to anyone. Elvish Yadav: People often think about what a partner should look like, but when there is true love, these conditions do not matter. Whatever you get becomes your type. Question: What is the difference between love of the 90s and today? Answer/Elvish Yadav: Nowadays new things like situationship, ghosting have come. In earlier times, there was more innocence and hesitation. Today people express their views more openly. Change is natural with time. Question: What changed in your bonding after Bigg Boss? Answer/Jiya Shankar: We both have had our own journey. People have clearly seen the progress of Elvish. Elvish Yadav: I am happy that we both are hosting this show together. The audience will be able to watch its episodes from 14th February i.e. tomorrow.
