New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to soldiers, calling them “brave heroes” who were killed in the Pulwama attack seven years ago.“Remembering the brave heroes who laid down their lives in Pulwama on this day in 2019. Their devotion, determination and service to the nation remains forever etched in our collective consciousness. Every Indian derives strength from their steadfast courage,” PM Modi said at X.Vice President CP Radhakrishnan also paid tributes on the seventh anniversary of the attack. “I pay tribute to the brave workers who gave their lives Pulwama terror attack. Their supreme sacrifice will forever remain etched in the nation’s memory and inspire us to build a strong and secure India,” he said.On February 14, 2019, Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the deadliest terrorist attack in Indian history. A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy was targeted in a suicide bombing along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, killing 40 personnel. The date is remembered as “Black Day” in the country’s security narrative.A convoy of 78 buses carrying around 2,500 CRPF personnel was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into one of the buses, causing widespread loss of life and destruction.The attack drew widespread international condemnation and led to an immediate tightening of security protocols across Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility and said a suicide bomber carried out the attack, according to local media reports.In response, India launched a series of counter-terrorism measures, notably conducting airstrikes on alleged terrorist training camps across the border in Pakistan. This military action has sharply increased the tension between the two countries.Beyond its immediate impact, the Pulwama attack has reignited global debates on cross-border terrorism, militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, and broader security dynamics between India and Pakistan.
