The historic success of ‘Karthikeya 2’ gave actor Nikhil Siddharth pan India recognition and took him to new heights at the national level. Made in a limited budget, this film proved that strong content and a faith-based story can reach the hearts of the audience directly. Now Nikhil is going to come with his much awaited film ‘Swayambhu’. In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Nikhil openly discussed the success of ‘Kartikeya 2’, the support received from the industry, the changing definition of Pan India cinema and the expectations regarding his upcoming film ‘Swayambhu’. Here are some highlights… Question: ‘Kartikeya 2’ had such an impact that everyone adopted it. No one wondered where Nikhil was from. You became a pan India star. Did any star from Bollywood call you up and congratulate you or give you any good feedback? Answer: Yes, almost everyone said very good things about the film. Hrithik Roshan sir saw the film and so did Kartik Aryan and Shahid Kapoor. All of them praised ‘Kartikeya 2’ a lot, which made me very happy. Telugu film industry also completely embraced this film. I believe that if a film wants to make a national level project then it does not require a huge budget. It is not necessary to spend three-four hundred crore rupees. We made ‘Kartikeya 2’ in a limited budget and gave good results. My upcoming film ‘Swayambhu’ is big budget but not unnecessarily expensive. We have received full support from the South Film Industry and now we are getting good support from Bollywood also. Question: After ‘Kartikeya 2’ you must have received many offers from Bollywood. Would you like to tell something about them? Answer: Yes, I got many good offers, talks were also held with big manufacturers. But my mother always reminds me of a saying, “Na ghar ka, na ghat ka.” Therefore, whatever I do, I should not forget my roots. I am currently doing Telugu films, which are then dubbed into Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. But for a film like ‘India House’, we are shooting separately in two languages. Once in Hindi and once in Telugu, so that the language is respected and the audience gets a better experience. I will continue to do Telugu films. It is not necessary to promote every film all over India, because some films are meant for regional audiences only. But ‘Swayambhu’ is not such a film. It is a film of approximately three hours and three minutes and I am sure it will be liked by the audiences in North, South, East, West and abroad too. Question: If you get a chance to work with any actress from the Hindi film industry, who would be your choice? Who’s on your bucket list? Answer: I have always been a fan of Raveena Tandon ji and it is a privilege for me to get the opportunity to work with her in ‘India House’. Sridevi ji was a big icon of South India. His daughter Janhvi Kapoor is doing very well and is also working in many Telugu films. Working with a talented artiste like her will always be a great experience. Question: If you get an opportunity to work with Prabhas or Ranbir Kapoor in a period drama film, and the subject is like our ancient culture or Ramayana, who would you choose? Answer: I would choose Prabhas bhai because he is a wonderful person and it will be fun to work with him. Although Ranbir is also a great actor, but Prabhas is the favorite star of the entire country. We all are waiting for his upcoming films ‘Kalki 2’ and ‘Spirit’.
