Signaling a shift from scale to strategic value, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnab on Monday said companies under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme must embed design, quality and engineering in India or risk losing support. The warning comes alongside a new set of approvals that underline the scale of the scheme. The ministry cleared 29 new projects with an investment of Rs 7,104 crore, taking the total approvals to Rs 61,671 crore – surpassing the initial target of Rs 59,350 crore.
Vaishnavism flagged gaps in industry response. “The real value is realized only when it is designed in India,” he said, adding that the incentives would be linked to deep technical capabilities.
