New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has condemned the killing of a 25-year-old man during Holi celebrations in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, terming the incident “heartbreaking and reprehensible” and assured strict action against those involved.In a post on X, the Chief Minister said that Delhi has a zero-tolerance policy towards violent crimes and directed authorities to ensure immediate arrest of all accused and speedy legal action in cases.
“This brutal killing of an innocent youth in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on the auspicious occasion of Holi is extremely painful, reprehensible and shocking to the entire society. Delhi has a zero-tolerance policy for such heinous criminal and violent incidents. Such atrocities will not be tolerated at any cost. The administration has been given clear and strict instructions to arrest those involved in this crime immediately. Let them be dealt with swiftly as per law.” Strict and exemplary action will be taken in this case so that no one dares to commit such inhuman act in future,” Gupta said.He also assured the victim’s family that the Delhi government stands by them and will ensure all possible assistance and justice. “Delhi government stands with the victim’s family with full sympathy, responsibility and determination at this difficult time. I will take measures to provide all possible assistance and justice to the family. Tarun’s family has lost their little son; their grief cannot be expressed in words. I wish peace to the departed soul and pray to God to give strength to the family to bear this unbearable grief,” the chief minister said.According to the Delhi Police, the case has now been registered under the charge of murder under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh said the police swung into action after the incident and arrested several accused in the case. “We have immediately arrested five persons, including a 17-year-old minor, in this case. The next day, based on the family’s statement, we arrested two more,” Singh said, adding that the police were continuing their investigation.He explained that the dispute started over a minor incident involving a child. “The trigger point was that on March 4, a 9-year-old girl threw a balloon from the roof around 10.30 pm, causing it to fall on a woman. Initially, the two families had an argument, then a fight broke out. We will interrogate the woman,” the DCP told the media.According to Singh, the authorities have deployed heavy police in the area to maintain law and order. “Given the situation, we have deployed adequate forces here. Besides the local police, we have also called personnel from Outer District and Western District. We have also deployed CRPF and RAF personnel. We have divided the entire area into zones, where we have deployed one DCP in each zone, one ACP in each sector, and one ASI in each sector.”Meanwhile, the family of the deceased demanded strict action against those involved. The youth’s elder brother Arun Kumar alleged that around 20-25 people were involved in the clash and requested the authorities to ensure justice for the family.
