Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched 'Morning Nutrition Program' for school children

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said nutrition goes beyond food and plays a fundamental role in nation building.Inaugurating a ‘Morning Nutrition Programme’ organized by NGO Akshay Patra Foundation, he said the initiative will provide energy and nutrition to children at the start of the day.Gupta said, “The smiling faces of the school children testify to the fact that nutrition is not just food, but the foundation for building the future.”The Delhi government stands firmly with the organization and will extend full support to this noble endeavour, he said.The Chief Minister said that the mid-day meal scheme has connected lakhs of children to school and contributed significantly to their physical and mental development.“Taking this forward, the morning nutrition program will provide energy and nutrition to children at the start of the day, enabling them to actively participate in studies, sports and other activities,” he said.According to officials, the Akshay Patra Foundation, in collaboration with around 200 government schools in Delhi, is currently serving food to around 90,000 children.Gupta said these meals are prepared and distributed through four state-of-the-art kitchens operating in the national capital, ensuring timely delivery.“No one will sleep hungry. The Delhi government is providing food to workers, underprivileged, patient attendants and other vulnerable sections at Rs 5 through Atal canteens. The government aims to provide food to 1 lakh people daily,” he said.A target has been set to set up 100 permanent canteens across the city, of which 71 are already operational, the chief minister said.
