Polls in Kerala, Assam and Puducherry in New Delhi – which recorded impressive turnout with two of the three states/UT states recording impressive turnouts – attracted global attention with 38 international delegates from 22 countries witnessing them, lauding them for high voter turnout and smooth election planning. The delegation was here as part of this Election CommissionIts International Election Visitors Program (IEVP) 2026. Describing their experience as “a true celebration of democracy”, Croatia’s representative Branimir Farkas said the election was “a huge process done right”. Paulus Sigvedha from Namibia said: “We are very impressed with how well the polling stations are organized and prepared, including wheelchair and crèche facilities.” The delegates visited the district level media monitoring centers and appreciated the continuous monitoring of elections through webcasting. They participate in tree plantation drives at polling stations, demonstrating eco-friendly and sustainable electoral practices. Abubakar Mahmud Koroma from Sierra Leone noted, “One of the great things about India is the use of EVMs… some of the things we have learned we can take home and see how we can implement it…” The international delegation began their two-day visit to Assam, Kerala and Puducherry (April 8-9) by visiting dispatch and distribution centers where they observed the systematic movement of voter groups with election materials through well-planned logistics and established SOPs. The delegates also held discussions with Chief Electoral Officers and State Police Nodal Officers regarding the overall conduct of the elections as well as security arrangements. They also visited the CCTV control rooms set up at the CEO’s office to monitor 100% webcasting of polling stations, describing them as “strong pillars of transparency”. TNN
