SRINAGAR: J&K Police’s Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) on Thursday raided three locations in Srinagar and Budgam districts to nab two persons involved in an alleged fraud who had issued fake medical procurement orders to siphon off government funds during the Covid-19 pandemic.Sanjay Kumar Sahu, proprietor of Delhi-based M/s Sanjay Trading Company, has filed a written complaint with the police, alleging that Emad Muzaffar Makdumi, alias Imran Shah and vicar Ahmed Bhat of Srinagar, “dishonestly induced the firm on the pretext of providing medical supplies during Covid-19.”The accused impersonated government officials and issued fake allotment orders to various departments and institutions. They created fake email IDs of the complainant company and opened fraudulent bank accounts in his name to divert payments.Police said searches were conducted to collect evidence including digital records and financial documents. The Crime Branch said that a preliminary investigation found that the accused used fraud to obtain large sums including funds from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Anantnag and tried to siphon off crores from the Government Medical College in Srinagar.
