BJP releases list of 88 candidates for Assam polls; Pradyut Bordoloi to contest from Dispur | India News
Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday released the first list of 88 candidates for the Assam Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, 2026. The party has withheld a name for the Sisborgaon seatOne of the biggest highlights of the announcement was Pradyut Bordoloi, the former Congress MP who joined the BJP on Wednesday. Bordoloi has been fielded from the high-profile Dispur constituency, marking a high-visibility contest in the state capital.
Apart from Bordoloi, another former Congress leader, Bhupen Kumar Borah, former PCC chief, has also been fielded in Bihpuris. He switched to BJP a few weeks ago.Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma will seek re-election from Jalukbari, which he has held since 2001. As per the seat-sharing within the NDA alliance, the BJP will contest 89 seats, while its allies Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) will contest 26 and 11 seats respectively. The BJP has clarified that UPPL is no longer part of the alliance, though it will contest 15 individually The 126-member Assam Assembly will go to polls in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled on May 4.
