Bihar: Nitish Kumar firm on Rajya Sabha move, son Nishant to join JDU tomorrow | India News
Patna: Nishant Kumar is set to join Janata Dal United A great political debut on March 8, the party announced Friday even as his father Nitish Kumar made it clear that the decision to go to the Rajya Sabha and step down as the Chief Minister of Bihar was his own and irrevocable. At an important JDU meeting at Nitish’s official residence, a resolution was passed by national working president Sanjay Jha congratulating the entry of Nishant, who was earlier reluctant to the idea of joining politics but relented after discussions with his father, party supporters and other family members. “The resolution was unanimously approved by all MLCs and MLAs and Sanjay Jha later announced the historic decision,” JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said.Speculation is rife that the low-profile Nishant — an alumnus of Jharkhand engineering institute BIT Mesra — could be appointed deputy CM in a new NDA government or given a key organizational role to prevent a leadership vacuum if Nitish shifts to Delhi. The move is significant as Nitish has long taken a strong stance against dynastic politics but now sees his only son entering public life at the age of 50. “The Chief Minister has given the green signal for Nishant’s entry,” said JDU senior Vijay Chaudhary Spokesperson Neeraj said Nishant will hit the ground running soon after his entry, visiting Bihar to interact with party workers and workers.Later, JDU president Nitish told party legislators that he would spend more time in Bihar despite the Rajya Sabha’s move. Denying the fact that he was forced or pressured to resign, he insisted that he would continue to monitor “everything” in the interest of the state’s development. Nitish requested the party legislators to allow him to go to Parliament. “When I was working at the Center with former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee, Vajpayee ji used to advise me to stay in Delhi. But I told him my first priority was Bihar and came back. Now I have decided to go to RS. I will arrange a house in Patna and spend more time in Bihar. You will not face any difficulty. All the work started by the uninterrupted government on our side will continue,” said his government arbitrarily.
