‘Be cautious filing nominations’: Mamata alleges EC bias, targets BJP | India News
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Wednesday alleged that recently appointed officials by the Election Commission have been tasked with rejecting the nomination papers of his party’s candidates and urged them to be careful while submitting their nominations.Banerjee also made the accusation while addressing three election rallies in the state BJP Abuse of central agencies and bringing in people from outside for political advantage.
“Everything has changed; it’s a new setup here. Newly appointed officials have been tasked by the EC to reject your nomination; so be careful while filing your nomination. Take lawyers with you while filing nomination,” Banerjee said at a rally in Birbhum district’s Nanur, as quoted by PTI.The West Bengal Chief Minister appealed to voters, especially women, not to support the BJP.“They (BJP) are anti-women, that’s why their names are being deleted from the SIR citing logical inconsistencies,” he said. Mamata Banerjee has alleged that ahead of the elections, the BJP has been seeking bank account details of poor people and warned them not to share such information, claiming it could lead to misappropriation of their money.The TMC chief alleged that the BJP was trying to bring in people from outside to influence the polls in Bengal and said, “The people of Delhi cannot capture Bengal until I am here.”Chief Minister also welcomed Supreme CourtOn SIR’s observation, he says he is “happy” with them.Referring to revision of voter list, Banerjee said her government has approached the Supreme Court and has so far managed to restore about 22 lakh names, while about 18 lakh names are yet to be restored.He added that those whose names were deleted would have to appeal before the tribunal, with the government bearing the associated costs.Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court said that the appellate tribunals will hear appeals filed by persons whose names have been omitted from the electoral roll, as well as those challenging the alleged wrongful inclusion by the election authorities.At the rally in Nanur, where party leader Anuvrata Mondal was absent, Banerjee alleged that Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s land in Santiniketan was being taken away, prompting her to intervene. He urged the people to defeat the BJP in the elections so that they do not have to toe the line in future.Later, addressing another public meeting in Burwan, the Chief Minister alleged large-scale erasure of voters’ names in several constituencies. He claimed that around 30,000 names were deleted in Dinhata and around 40,000 in his own constituency Bhavanipur.However, Banerjee insisted that these developments would not help the BJP win the elections and asked people to consider her as a candidate in 294 assembly constituencies.
