Assam Assembly Elections 2026: What BJP is offering in its election manifesto

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday unveiled its manifesto for the Assam Assembly elections 2026, outlining an ambitious mix of cultural, economic and governance promises aimed at consolidating its position in the state. The document released by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman makes 31 promises under the party’s “Decision Paper”.A central plank of the manifesto is the commitment to protect the land, heritage and dignity of Assam’s tribal communities. The BJP has promised strong action against encroachment, including recovery of land allegedly occupied by illegal settlers. In addition, the group proposed the implementation of a uniform civil code and measures to strengthen law and order, framing them as essential for long-term stability.

On the economic front, the BJP has promised an investment of Rs 5 lakh crore to transform Assam into an important economic hub and India’s eastern gateway. The manifesto emphasized infrastructure expansion, job creation for the youth and sustainable development, with the leadership highlighting what it calls a decade of transformation under his rule. The party also claimed that improved opportunities are encouraging Assamese youth to return to the state from global careers.

What are the 31 promises of BJP?A vessel of determination‘?

The BJP has made the following promises in its manifesto:

  1. We will protect the land, heritage and dignity of the tribals of Assam
  2. We will strengthen the legislative system to preserve the civilisation, heritage and rights of the people of Assam.
  3. We will invest Rs 5 lakh crore to position Assam as India’s Eastern Gateway, supported by an Assam Gati ShaktiMaster Plan to ensure timely completion of projects.
  4. We will launch the Assam Urban Development Initiative with the help of the Central Government
  5. We will launch Badh Mukt Assam Mission with an investment of Rs 18,000 crore to make Assam flood free
  6. We will provide employment and self-employment opportunities to the youth
  7. We will empower the youth of Assam to be self-reliant
  8. We will continue to provide rice, lentils, sugar and salt at subsidized rates along with mustard oil and provide free ration to the poorest of the poor families.
  9. We will launch the One District, One University initiative and ensure comprehensive coverage of medical and engineering colleges in every district to raise the standard of higher education in Assam.
  10. We will transform education in Assam by ensuring inclusive education, building world-class institutions and expanding the teaching workforce.
  11. We will strengthen the dignity, security and economic independence of women in Assam
  12. We will ensure promotion, protection and preservation of tribal culture of Assam
  13. We will strengthen the income security of farmers
  14. We will provide financial support to fish farmers, ensure income support during fishing.
  15. We will launch the Assam Agricultural Development Initiative and modernize agricultural market infrastructure and supply chain management
  16. We will actively pursue the Central Government to implement the recommendations of the Group of Ministers (GoM) in view of the schedule of the six communities of Kochrajwanshi, Tai Ahom, Adivasi and Cha Tribe, Chutia, Moran and Matak and protect the constitutional, social and economic rights of the existing ST communities.
  17. We will follow the Central Government to consider the inclusion of seven communities viz., Bishnupriya Manipuri, Bhar or Rajbhar, Newar, Bhujel, Sabar, Satnami and Kiranshekh in the Central List of Other Backward Classes, consistent with their existing recognition in the State OBC list.
  18. We will work to give constitutional status to the autonomous councils of Nikhonj, Rava, Sonowal Kachari, Thengal Kachari, Deuri, Tiwa and Boro Kachari tribes.
  19. We will ensure inclusive development and land security for indigenous peoples
  20. We will ensure overall development of the tea tribal community
  21. With the completion of 22 lakh+ houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural and Urban), we will construct an additional 15 lakh houses to ensure every family has access to a decent home with basic amenities.
  22. We will launch Nijut Sipini to provide financial support to 10 lakh traditional weavers to strengthen their livelihood and handloom production.
  23. Based on our rapid economic growth since 2016, we will double Assam’s economy to $150 billion by 2031 and grow it to $300 billion by 2036.
  24. We will provide a wage subsidy of Rs 10,000 per employee to new industries investing in Assam to support training and employment of local youth along with enhanced incentives for enterprises established under Advantage Assam.
  25. We will launch the Assam Parjyatan Bikash Abhijan to position Assam as a leading tourist destination.
  26. We will ensure the timely implementation of all signed peace agreements
  27. We will focus on welfare of public servants, development of good governance and strengthening of law and order
  28. We will ensure holistic development of sports across the state with targeted interventions
  29. Making Dibrugarh the second capital of Assam
  30. To ensure overall development of Barak Valley
  31. Building on Assam’s incremental health investment of Rs 2,600 crore in 2016 to Rs 8,900 crore in 2025, we will strengthen the state’s medical infrastructure.
