Sitar maestro Anushka Shankar recently rejected musician Rishabh Rikhiram Sharma’s claim that he is the last and youngest disciple of her father Pandit Ravi Shankar. Speaking to Humans of Bombay, Anushka said, “Rishabh is very talented and he connects with people very beautifully, but there are some misconceptions about him being a ‘guru’. He has taken extensive training from Parimal Sadaphal, who is very close to me and my father’s senior disciple.” He further said that he had some informal and loving meetings and classes with my father, in which Parimal was also present. We know him since childhood, as he is the son of our instrument maker Sanjay Rukhiram Sharma. Anushka Shankar also said that perhaps because of this the word spread that he was my father’s last or youngest disciple, which is not completely true, but he is extremely talented and deserves his success with or without this story.
