'All they care about is politics and power': PM Modi slams Congress for endangering Indians in Gulf

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused Congress leaders of endangering the lives of Indians in the Middle East by making dangerous comments.Addressing a rally in Tiruvalla in vote-hungry Kerala, the prime minister alleged that the Congress wants Gulf countries to treat India as their enemy amid the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran.“Congress wants West Asian countries to consider India as their enemy, we should do something wrong here, make some statement, and Indians living in Gulf countries have problems, so Congress is making statements that anger Gulf countries,” PM Modi said.“Congress wants to spread panic, and get an opportunity to abuse Modi. I want to tell people from Congress, LDF, UDF that there is a place for politics, elections will come and go, but for me, the safety of millions of Keralites is the priority, and I am committed to that,” he added.PM Modi, however, cited India’s good relations with Middle Eastern countries and said that Gulf governments consider Indians as their family.“It is a good thing that our friendship is strong, all the Gulf governments consider all our Indians as their family and protect them,” PM Modi said.“But here, such language is being spoken. I am tired of telling them that this is not the time to speak like this. Our only responsibility is the safety of our millions of brothers and sisters living there. So stop talking nonsense, so that our young men and women, our daughters don’t get into trouble there.”The Center has been monitoring the situation since the beginning of the conflict. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi chaired a meeting with chief ministers and lieutenant governors of all states and union territories to review the situation.Additionally, the government has also constituted an inter-ministerial committee chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to monitor the situation.Polling for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections is scheduled to take place on April 9, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4. The term of the current assembly is going to end on May 23
