JAMMU: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of J&K Police on Wednesday searched the properties of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhury’s brother Vijay Chowdhury, a police inspector posted in Ladakh, in an alleged disproportionate assets (DA) case.Calling the raids an attempt to intimidate his family and mislead him, the deputy CM said they would fight it legally.An official spokesperson said that ACB teams conducted searches at multiple locations, including Joy’s residential premises in Santokh Vihar (Kaluchak) and Nonyal (Nowshera) in Jammu’s Rajouri district, Tutte Di Khui, Bajalta (Jammu) and other locations.The kidnappers seized incriminating documents during the search and further investigations are underway, the spokesman said.Sharing details, an ACB spokesperson said documents revealed that Vijay had amassed assets worth crores of rupees, which were found to be highly inconsistent with his known sources of income. He allegedly acquired more than 10 properties including houses, shops and plots of land in the names of his family members, relatives and others.Initially, a case of criminal misconduct was found against Vijay Chaudhary under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and an FIR was lodged accordingly, the spokesperson said.The deputy CM termed the raid as “politically motivated” and driven by “revenge”. He told mediapersons that his family had nothing to hide and would fight back legally. While claiming his brother’s innocence, he said Vijay should be punished if he is proven wrong.
