Story of Mahashivratri (Maha Shivratri Katha)
There is a description in Garuda Purana that a hunter worshiped Shiva unknowingly. He went to the forest in search of prey but did not find anything. At night he sat under a Bilva tree on the bank of a pond, where the Shivalinga was installed. In fatigue, he plucked Bilva leaves from the tree which fell on Shivalinga. While sprinkling water from the pond, some drops also fell on Shivling. In this way his worship was completed unknowingly. After his death, when Yamdoot came to take him, the Lord Shiva protected him. This story tells that even a small work done with true heart and devotion is dear to Lord Shiva.
