A Delhi court on Thursday allowed jailed Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid to attend the monsoon session of Parliament. The court has allowed him to visit Parliament on custodial parole on all scheduled days during the monsoon session running from July 20 to August 13.

According to PTI report special NIA Judge Prashant Sharma heard the petition of Engineer Rashid, in which he had sought custodial parole to participate in the upcoming monsoon session. The court accepted the petition and allowed him to attend Parliament amid security arrangements. Under custody parole, a prisoner is taken to a fixed place under the supervision of armed policemen. The hearing of the case took place in-camera.

Sheikh Abdul Rashid is accused of funding separatist and terrorist organizations in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Investigation Agency had arrested him in the terror funding case of 2017. Since then, he has been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2019.

A case has been registered in these cases

After being named in the NIA chargesheet in October 2019, in March 2022, a special NIA court had framed charges against Engineer Rashid and other accused under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (inciting war against the government) and 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Apart from this, charges related to terrorist activities and terror funding have also been leveled against him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
