A major accident was averted due to heavy rain and strong winds in Navi Mumbai on Sunday morning. At 8.30 am, debris of stones and soil along with a tree fell near the RBI Colony metro station of Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1.
According to the Municipal Corporation, due to continuous rain, a total of 154 mm rainfall was recorded. Due to strong winds the local land was affected and the debris fell down.
It is a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life or property in this incident. Nor has any private or public property been damaged. The debris fell on the sidewalk along the road. This footpath was already barricaded and closed to pedestrians.
Immediately after the incident, the affected section of the road was closed and traffic was diverted for safety reasons. Disaster management teams of CIDCO and NMMC jointly reached the spot, secured the area and removed the debris.
For safety, temporary barricading is now being done with GI sheets. In view of the alert of excessive rain, one lane of the affected road will be closed for traffic for the time being.
Navi Mumbai Operation of trains on Metro Line-1 is completely normal. Passengers can travel from RBI Colony Metro Station and nearby stations without any hassle.
The administration has appealed to the citizens and local passengers to stay away from the restricted area of the station premises and follow the instructions of the administration.
