In Kanpur’s Bithoor area, Devashish, son of retired IAS officer Chandra Nigam, seriously injured his friend and widow employee of IIT Kanpur by hitting her with a stone after she refused to marry him. The accused young man was pressurizing the woman for marriage after his separation from his wife, but the woman refused citing her 16 year old daughter. Enraged by this, the accused first broke the glass of the car and then pelted stones at the woman’s head. The local people who came after hearing the shouting, caught the accused on the spot and took the badly injured woman to the hospital.
Pressure and controversy of marriage after friendship
Devashish Nigam, resident of Swaroop Nagar, had befriended a female IIT employee through social media. Devashish was having a dispute with his wife and lived separately, while the woman’s husband had died. On Saturday evening, Devashish took the woman to Bithoor by car. On the way, he asked to marry her, but the woman refused.
Deadly attack by breaking car window
On hearing the refusal of marriage, Devashish got enraged and started fighting in the car itself. When the woman tried to get out of the car, the accused got down and broke the glass of the car with a stone lying on the road and then hit the woman two-three times on the head. Due to bleeding, the woman fell on the road, whose condition is currently very serious.
The mob caught the accused, the police arrested him
Hearing the screams of the woman, nearby people gathered. Angry people caught the accused Devashish and beat him up and informed the police. The police reached the spot and immediately admitted the injured woman to the Medical College Hospital by ambulance. Bithoor police has taken the accused into custody and further legal action is being taken after registering a case on the complaint of the victim’s sister.
