In the order issued on June 23, 2026, the department has decided to end the income tax exemption of Mohammad Ali Johar Trust. The order said that the Income Tax raid conducted in September 2023 and the subsequent investigation revealed several alleged irregularities.

According to the Income Tax Department, the trust is mainly run by Mohammad Azam Khan And was under the control of his family members. During the investigation, it was claimed about some non-family trustees that they were only nominal trustees. He had no knowledge of the operations or financial matters of the trust.
The order also said that the value of 59 buildings present in the Jauhar University campus was estimated to be more than Rs 494 crore. The Income Tax Department alleges that serious questions have arisen regarding these assets and the financial sources related to their construction.
The Income Tax Department has also raised questions on the validity of many donors. It has been said in the order that some donor organizations and individuals did not exist during the investigation. The sources of donations given by him were not clear.

Akash Saxena said that generally the donations received by trusts are exempted from income tax. It has already been proved that donations were taken fraudulently by Azam Khan while he was in the government. There are hundreds of people who do not even have PAN cards. Everything was checked.
Many things had come to light in the earlier income tax raid. There is no record of the 59 buildings. Around Rs 500 crore of government money is invested in private universities. Complaints were being made for a long time. Complaints were made with proof. Donation of everything has been wrongly taken into trust. He is completely fake.
