When the Pandavas were expelled from Hastinapur, they made Indraprastha their capital. According to mythological beliefs, Indraprastha was earlier Khandavaprastha, which was developed by the Pandavas. It is believed that the old fort of today’s Delhi is the place of ancient Indraprastha. According to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the old fort was situated on the banks of the Yamuna River. Terracotta toys and painted pottery have been found in the excavations here, which are believed to be around 1000 BC. This evidence strengthens the historicity of Indraprastha.
Now let’s talk about those five villages-
vyagraprastha
The first village was Vyaghraprastha, which is today known as Baghpat. Vyaghra means tiger, and it is said that tigers were found here in ancient times. This place is also linked to the incident of Lakshagriha, where a conspiracy was hatched to burn the Pandavas.
swarnaprastha
The second village was Swarnprastha, which is today called Sonipat. With time its name changed to Sonipat. This is a major city of Haryana.
Panduprastha
The third village was Panduprastha, which is today known as Panipat. This place is about 90 kilometers away from New Delhi and Kurukshetra is located nearby, where Mahabharata There was a war.
Tilprastha
The fourth village was Tilprastha, which is today called Tilpat in Faridabad district. This place is very ancient and evidence of civilization even before the Mahabharata period has been found here. Tilpat is considered to be the oldest among all these villages. It was once under Indraprastha kingdom.
Kurukshetra
Kurukshetra is a major pilgrimage center of Haryana. It was here in Jyotisar that Lord Krishna preached the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. It is said that this entire area was spread over 48 Kos.
