A serious case has come to light from Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, where a woman has accused her father-in-law of raping her several times on the strength of a weapon. The woman has also alleged that when she protested against this, she did not get any help from her in-laws, rather she was beaten up.

The victim is a resident of Lucknow and her marriage took place in the year 2023. The woman says that after marriage, when her husband was away for work, her father-in-law took advantage of her and raped her several times. The woman alleged that the accused used to threaten her with a country-made pistol and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

The woman said that the most recent incident took place on January 24. After this, when she protested and tried to make noise, it is alleged that instead of helping her, her mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law beat her up. In the complaint given to the police, the woman also alleged that she was being harassed in her in-laws’ house since marriage. She told that her husband was also involved in this whole matter or he did not help in any way.

Husband accused of giving triple talaq over phone

However, during police interrogation, the husband made a different claim. The husband says that his wife was in a relationship with another man and due to this there was a marital dispute going on between the two. Police have recorded the statements of both the parties and investigation into the case is ongoing.

The woman alleges that after the dispute escalated, she returned to her maternal home. After this her husband gave her triple talaq over phone. The woman has called this step illegal and mentally harassing. According to the police, on the basis of the complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections against the husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

A case has been registered under the Indian Justice Code and Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Act. Rupaidiha police station in-charge Ramesh Kumar Rawat said that both allegations and counter-allegations have come forward in the case and all aspects are being investigated. No one has been arrested yet. Police say that further action will be decided only after investigation.

Husband described the allegations as a matter related to dispute

The officials also clarified that considering the seriousness of the matter, every fact is being investigated and further process will be completed on the basis of the statement. Let us tell you, in the year 2019, triple talaq was declared illegal. According to the law, there is a provision of imprisonment up to three years and fine for giving instant triple talaq.
