The family returned home on 7 June. The family’s eyes fell on a small idol kept in the house. The gold chain around the neck of the idol was missing. The family felt that it might have been kept somewhere or someone might have committed some small theft. But he informed the police. Gachibowli police registered the case and started investigation. At that time perhaps no one had thought that this was not just the theft of a chain, but the beginning of the theft of jewelery worth crores of rupees.
The real twist in the story came the next day. The son of the family reached home and opened the locker. As soon as the locker opened, the ground slipped beneath his feet. About 7 to 8 kg of gold jewelery and about 1.5 kg of silver jewelery kept in the locker were missing. The total value of gold and silver was estimated to be around Rs 12 crore.
When the complaint reached Cyberabad police, investigation started. The first question before the police was, how did such a big theft happen? There were no signs of forced entry into the house. The locker was not broken. The locks were secure. That means whoever committed the theft had good knowledge of both the house and the locker. As the investigation progressed, suspicion fell on the people working in the house.
Police came to know that Kamal Shahi and his wife Vimala Shahi, residents of Nepal, were working in the house for some time. Kamal’s sister-in-law Kalpana also worked nearby and remained in touch with both of them. Gradually the police started to understand in which direction the story was going. What came to light in the investigation surprised everyone.
It is alleged that the key of the locker was kept with him. Kamal, Vimala and Kalpana had reportedly seen the key. As soon as the family went out, he saw the opportunity and opened the locker. The most surprising thing was that after the theft the locker was closed again. That is, at first glance no one could have known that jewelery worth crores of rupees had gone missing. After this the three accused fled away with the jewellery.
The theft of Rs 12 crore was not a small incident. Cyberabad Police Commissioner took the matter very seriously. Special Operation Team (SOT), crime team and local police were deployed together. A total of six teams were formed for investigation. Police examined the CCTV footage. Mobile numbers were checked. Old records were viewed. Information about relatives and acquaintances of the suspects was collected. Gradually clues started emerging.
As the investigation progressed, the police came to know that the accused had left Hyderabad. After this, six police teams left in different directions. Search was started in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand. Photographs and information of the accused were shared with the police of the respective states. A special team monitoring the cases related to Nepali gang was also included in the investigation.

After searching for several days, the police received an information. Input was received that the suspects could be in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. after this Telangana Police contacted Rampur police. The police of both the states started a joint operation. Constant surveillance started in Rampur. Checking campaign was conducted.
Suspicious locations were kept under surveillance. Then on June 9, the police laid siege to Udampur village in Rampur district. Kamal Shahi, his wife Vimala Shahi and Kalpana were arrested from here. At the time of his arrest, the gold and other items stolen from him were also recovered.
According to Rampur SP Somendra Meena, based on the input received from Telangana Police, joint action was taken and the accused were arrested. The police have recovered all the stolen goods.
Police suspect that more people may also be involved in this whole matter. During interrogation it has also come to light that the accused may have some other associates. Now the police is trying to find out when the theft was planned and who else was involved in it.
Police say that all the stolen items have been recovered. The accused are being produced in Hyderabad court and will be brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant for further investigation. While appealing to the people, the police also said that police verification of domestic servants should be done.
