Sonali (fictitious name), a resident of Mainpuri Sadar Kotwali area of Uttar Pradesh, has filed a serious case of dowry harassment against her husband Shivam Gupta and her in-laws. Sonali was married on 19 February 2024 to Shivam, a resident of Etah, who works in a private company at a monthly salary of Rs 2.5 lakh. Despite giving a decent amount of dowry in the marriage, Shivam was demanding another Rs 50 lakh. When the demands were not met, the victim was physically and mentally tortured. When the victim got cameras installed in her rented flat in Agra after becoming suspicious about her husband’s behaviour, she came to know about his husband’s objectionable activities. If she protested, the husband threatened to kill her.
It is written in the complaint – Due to the suspicious behavior of Shivam, the wife installed hidden cameras in the flat, which revealed his unnatural acts (misdeeds with hired boys). When the wife, who was shocked after watching the video, asked to tell her family, the husband threatened to kill her. After not being heard by the police, the victim has now appealed to the higher authorities for justice and filing a report.
Salary worth lakhs yet hungry for dowry
According to the victim, her father had given jewelery and gifts at the wedding beyond his means. Husband Shivam Gupta is M.Tech educated and his salary is Rs 2.5 lakh per month, but even after this his greed has not diminished. He was continuously pressurizing him to bring Rs 50 lakh in cash. When the victim refused, she had to face hell-like conditions at home.
The camera revealed the secret of her husband’s misdeeds.
Shortly after marriage, Sonali started becoming suspicious of her husband’s actions. To know the truth, he secretly installed cameras in his flat in Agra. The victim claims that in the recording of the cameras, she found evidence of some such objectionable activities of her husband, which she was stunned to see. When she tried to tell her family about this, her husband threatened her with death to keep her quiet.
Victim wandering from door to door for justice
Sonali alleges that initially when she reached Sadar Kotwali with the complaint, the police did not register her report. Seeing justice not being provided, he submitted an application to the higher officials of the district, pleading for his safety and action against the culprits.
Now, on the instructions of the officials, the police have started the investigation process in view of the seriousness of the case.
