A case of fraud has come to light in Thane, Maharashtra. A man extorted lakhs of rupees from a woman and her acquaintances in the name of providing her a government job. The accused had described himself as working in the ministry and an influential person associated with higher officials.

According to the agency, this fraud incident took place between June 2024 and September 2025. The accused is originally a resident of Nashik. He contacted a 45-year-old woman living in Bhandup area of ​​Mumbai. He assured the woman and her relatives of getting government jobs.

The accused prepared fake documents. There were fake signatures on these documents, which he used to show to the victims by pretending to be genuine government papers. In this way he gradually won the trust of the woman and her acquaintances.

After this started taking money. According to the police, the accused took around Rs 35.25 lakh from the woman, while he extorted Rs 14 lakh from another person. This amount was taken from an office located in Dombivali area.

When no one got a job despite the passage of time, the victims became suspicious. He asked for the money back from the accused. Initially, the accused returned around Rs 3.25 lakh to maintain the trust, but after this he kept delaying in returning the remaining amount.

When the victims felt that they had been cheated, the woman reported the matter to the police. Based on this complaint, a case was registered on 20 April. The police have registered a case against the accused under sections of cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust. Officials say that the search for the accused is going on and efforts are being made to arrest him soon. The police has appealed to the people not to fall prey to any unknown person in the name of getting a government job and to do thorough investigation before doing any kind of transaction.
