Trump had threatened
In a post on ‘Truth Social’ on Sunday, President Donald Trump said that America Soon it will start stopping ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He also said that the main focus would be on ships which he said were paying ‘illegal tolls’. A few hours later, the US military said it would begin enforcing the blockade from 7:30 pm IST on Monday.
From this announcement by America, it seems that the purpose of this step is to stop the alleged practice under which some ships passing through this strategic Gulf route ChinaAre using Mr Yuan. This development is being seen as a challenge to the long-standing ‘petrodollar’ system and a way to avoid US sanctions.
Washington has once again toughened its stance towards both China and Iran. It also points to rising tensions between two countries that have consistently demonstrated their ability to withstand US economic pressure.
