UAE’s money is deposited with State Bank of Pakistan
This loan was given to support Pakistan’s balance of payments and this money was kept as a safe deposit in the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). According to sources, Pakistan was paying about 6 percent interest on this amount.
Earlier, UAE used to roll over this deposit amount every year, but in December 2025, it was extended first for one month and then for two months, the deadline for which was till April 17.
Pakistan needed a rollover of about $12 billion as external deposits for the current financial year, which included saudi arabia This includes $5 billion from India, $4 billion from China and $3 billion from UAE.
At present, Pakistan has foreign exchange reserves of more than 21 billion dollars and is capable of repaying the debt of UAE. But in the coming months it may again need financial help from abroad.
