However, in 2024, there were signs of improvement in relations after the meeting between PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia and subsequent talks in Tianjin. Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to attend the BRICS summit to be held in India this year.

In the last few months, both the countries have intensified efforts to stabilize relations and efforts are being made to make a new beginning through dialogue. Wang Yi said that modernization of the world is not possible without big emerging countries like India and China.

Wang Yi praised the contribution of outgoing Indian Ambassador Pradeep Rawat. Rawat is retiring at the end of this month. In his place, India’s current High Commissioner to Britain, Vikram Doraiswami, will take charge as India’s new Ambassador to Beijing.
