To end the ongoing war with Iran, US President Donald Trump has put forward a 15-point peace proposal to Tehran, in which Washington has demanded a one-month ceasefire, limiting Tehran’s nuclear program, stopping support to proxy groups (Hamas, Hezbollah etc.) and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. In return, America has proposed to lift partial sanctions on Iran and approve civil nuclear program under UN supervision.

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner from the US side may participate in the possible talks starting next week.

On the other hand, America’s sudden ceasefire proposal has surprised Israeli officials who were in favor of continuing the war. On the other hand, despite diplomatic efforts, the Pentagon is deploying 3,000 additional troops in the area. Currently there are about 50,000 American soldiers present in the Middle East. Peace plan is not new
Experts say that this 15-point framework is not completely new, but is based on the May 2025 proposal which failed after the Israeli attacks.
The earlier plan reportedly imposed broader conditions, including imposing strict limits on Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, exporting uranium stockpiles, decommissioning enrichment facilities, and restricting the use of sanctions relief funds, while only partial sanctions relief and a civilian nuclear program under UN supervision were offered.
There remains uncertainty as to whether the revised version has been formally presented to Iran. Some diplomats doubt whether a concrete new proposal exists, and if so, it probably has not yet been shared with Tehran.
At the same time, Trump claimed that progress has been made with Iran due to very good and meaningful talks held in the last two days. However, Tehran rejected the claim, saying there had been no secret talks other than limited indirect contacts about resuming talks.
Analysts believe that Trump is looking for a way out (off-ramp) from this war. However, deep mistrust between the two countries and uncertainty about the right to negotiate inside Iran are major obstacles to this peace process.
