Israel targeted Iran’s gas field without any warning
On Wednesday, Israel attacked Iran’s main South Pars gas field. In response, Tehran launched major attacks on energy infrastructure in Ras Laffan of Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

How much damage has Ras Laffan suffered?
Al-Kaabi said the attack on Ras Laffan not only knocked out 17 percent of Qatar’s LNG export capacity, but the damage caused would have an impact that would last for five years.
Kabi said, ‘The cold boxes are gone.’ Cold box is a cooling system which cools the gas in pure and liquid form so that it can be transported. Of the 14 train cold boxes of QatarEnergy, 2 have suffered heavy damage.
He said, ‘This is the main unit, this is the cooling box of the LNG, it has been completely destroyed.’
Ras Laffan was also scheduled to expand, but after the Iranian attack earlier this month, the company evacuated its plants. Due to this delay, gas sent to countries like France, Germany and China will be affected from 2027.
He said, ‘It was not easy to evacuate all the people from the refinery located in the middle of the ocean, you know, in 24 hours 10,000 people were evacuated and all operations were stopped. I am very happy that no one was injured during this time, no one died. This happened because of that decision of ours.
Through this expansion, Qatar wanted to further strengthen its position as the top LNG exporter. Under this, Qatar’s liquefaction capacity was to be increased from 77 million tonnes to 126 million tonnes per year by 2027.
When will QatarEnergy start producing LNG?
Qabi said QatarEnergy’s production could only resume when hostilities ended, and even then it would take at least three to four months to resume full loading.
Kaabi, who is also the chairman of Qatar Airways, said that this war will have a huge impact on all the economies of the Gulf.
He said, ‘This has pushed the entire region back by 10-20 years. Tourism is over. Your airlines are not flying… your business has collapsed. Nothing is moving from any port.
He further said, ‘We have economies whose income from oil and gas has gone to zero, and we are predominantly an oil and gas based economy. Therefore, it is obvious that the government’s expenditure will be at a very, very low rate.
