Taking major action, a joint team of GRP and RPF has recovered African gold worth about Rs 3.5 crore at Cantt Railway Station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Two smugglers from Maharashtra have been arrested in this case.
According to the police, this action was taken during the checking operation. According to the information, when Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express reached platform number 5, on the information of an informer, the police noticed two suspicious persons. Seeing the police coming towards them, both the suspects got scared and tried to run away, but the police team immediately surrounded them and caught them.
GRP-RPF caught two smugglers
The arrested accused have been identified as Balaso Jadhav (36), resident of Satara and Tejas Panwar (23), resident of Pune, Maharashtra. During the search, the police found gold biscuits hidden in the clothes of both of them. A total of 19 gold bars were recovered during the investigation, whose total weight was found to be 2.215 kg.
The estimated value of the recovered gold is said to be around Rs 3 crore 54 lakh 40 thousand. According to the police, the smugglers had hidden the gold biscuits inside their pants and the clothes were also cut for this so that the gold could be easily hidden.

During interrogation, the accused told that this was gold of foreign origin which was brought to India through Bangladesh. According to the information, this consignment of gold was being taken from Cooch Behar in West Bengal to Delhi.
The joint team of GRP and RPF took action and achieved great success. He said that it could be an organized smuggling gang and its front and rear networks are being investigated.
