सन्यास, दबाव या रणनीति… नीतीश कुमार के राज्यसभा जाने के फैसले से उठ रहे हैं 5 सवाल – nitish kumar rs election decision 5 questions bihar jdu leadership transition bjp ntcpmr
The way has been cleared for the formation of a new government in Bihar. The latest statement of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is saying the same. Nitish Kumar has definitely clarified the political picture of Bihar to some extent with his statement, but has also complicated a lot of things.
Nitish Kumar Whatever he has said through social media is not retirement from active politics, but it is definitely resignation from the post of Chief Minister. Nitish Kumar has told about his wish, but has not said anything on the political entry of his son Nishant Kumar. Similarly, it has not been told what will be the role of JDU?
Till now the biggest discussion has been that Nitish Kumar never comes under anyone’s pressure. But the way Nitish Kumar has taken a new step, such claims have also been put to rest.
1. How should Nitish Kumar’s statement be understood?
Bihar Earlier, the time of nomination for Rajya Sabha elections was considered to be between 11 to 11.30. Then it was told from BJP that Union Minister Amit Shah is reaching Patna at around 12 noon, hence nomination of NDA candidates will take place between 1.30 to 2 pm.
And, Amit Shah Just an hour before reaching Patna, Nitish Kumar issued a vague statement on social site X. A statement which seems more like an exit note, in which Nitish Kumar himself is announcing his appointment in the Margdarshak Mandal, ‘I want to assure you with all sincerity that this relationship of mine with you will continue in the future also and my resolve to build a developed Bihar with you will remain the same. The new government that will be formed will have my full support and guidance.
According to him, Nitish Kumar has formally reiterated his four year old wish, ‘Ever since I started my parliamentary career, I had a desire in my mind that I should become a member of both the houses of the Bihar Legislative Assembly as well as the Parliament. In this sequence, I want to become a member of Rajya Sabha in the elections being held this time.
While talking to journalists on the occasion of Bihar Day in March 2022, Nitish Kumar had said that everything has been done, one wish remains that he could not go to Rajya Sabha. Even then, Nitish Kumar’s statement was considered as a one-off, as it has now taken a formal form. Then speculations were also being made about Nitish Kumar being made the Vice President through Rajya Sabha. When the ruckus increased, Nitish Kumar clarified, I have worked in the Lok Sabha, Assembly and Legislative Council… but have never been to the Rajya Sabha… It is my desire to become a Rajya Sabha member one day, but at the moment I am not thinking like that.
The question is whether a similar challenge had arisen before Nitish Kumar then, but the JDU leader had fixed everything in his own way – and now?
2. Has Nitish Kumar taken the decision under pressure?
It is being said on social media that Nitish Kumar never comes under anyone’s pressure. It has even been said in a light-hearted manner that he had agreed to the matter under pressure from his father only in the matter of studies. But later he took the path of politics.
The track record of politics is such that whenever pressure is felt, it takes a U-turn. And, by doing so, he remained on the post of Chief Minister of Bihar for 20 years. The biggest reason for leaving the post of Chief Minister has also come to light, Nitish Kumar’s health. Questions have also been raised regarding many of his public behaviour, which have been linked to health.
If the question is whether Nitish Kumar has taken the latest decision under pressure from BJP. To tell you, Nitish Kumar has already told that he had an old desire to go to Rajya Sabha. Now that wish is being fulfilled – but, who would believe that Nitish Kumar would give up the post of Chief Minister for the sake of going to Rajya Sabha?
If he had got a chance to become the Prime Minister, then this thing could definitely have been accepted. But, at present this is not even possible. Such possibilities could have been debated for a long time before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The condition of JDU had definitely worsened after the 2020 assembly elections, but in 2025, Nitish Kumar improved the performance of the party, and before the Lok Sabha elections, by making a comeback, he also maintained the number of MPs, due to which it remains a strong shoulder of support in the central government.
However, an example of pressure was seen only when Nitish Kumar was made the Deputy CM of BJP when the government is formed in 2025. Samrat Chaudhary Had to give Home Ministry.
3. How will Nitish keep a hold on Bihar politics?
Nitish Kumar’s hold on Bihar politics can remain strong only when the new Chief Minister also becomes as per his wish. As discussed, Nishant Kumar At best, there is a possibility of Nishant Kumar becoming the Deputy CM – if Nishant Kumar is made the Chief Minister of Bihar, then only Nitish Kumar can have the remote of power in his hands.
Making Nishant Kumar the Deputy CM can only be called a temporary adjustment, as if some ritual is being performed. If the new Chief Minister is not from BJP but from JDU, then there can be some interference. There are already two camps in JDU also.
One camp of JDU is a supporter of Nitish Kumar, while the other is sympathetic with BJP. Almost in the same way as former Deputy CM Sushil Modi, despite being a BJP leader, was considered closer to Nitish Kumar. In the situation of disaster that arose between JDU and BJP, RCP Singh has already set an example by taking advantage of the opportunity.
4. Will BJP be able to implement the Maharashtra formula, even if late?
Even before Bihar elections, there were apprehensions that BJP would implement Maharashtra formula in Bihar, but nothing like that happened. Just as BJP had made Nitish Kumar the Chief Minister in 2020 despite JDU having very less seats, in 2025 also everything was allowed to happen quietly. BJP was waiting for the iron to be hot, when the hammer would have full effect.
BJP has already laid the trap. Under the Luv-Kush equation, Samrat Chaudhary has been installed in the cabinet after Nitish Kumar. The Home Ministry, which was with Nitish Kumar for years, has also been given to him – Samrat Chaudhary has been considered in the race for the post of Chief Minister earlier also, now there is a big opportunity.
However, the names of Nityanand Rai and Dilip Jaiswal are also running from BJP’s side for the post of Chief Minister. Earlier too, an attempt has been made to make Nityanand Rai parallel to Nitish Kumar in Bihar politics, because along with Nitish Kumar, he could have been effective for Lalu Yadav’s vote bank also.
The political equations of Bihar are such that in order to establish a strong foothold, BJP has to step forward with all its might. After Nitish Kumar joined the Grand Alliance in 2022, Amit Shah had said in a Bihar rally that BJP will make its Chief Minister after the 2025 assembly elections – but till now such a situation has not happened.
In fact, BJP doesn’t just want its own Chief Minister, it also wants to carry on Nitish Kumar’s legacy – and this is not so easy.
5. Will Nishant Kumar be able to save JDU and father’s legacy?
Nishant Kumar will be able to save his father’s legacy only when he can create a similar position. Watching politics closely, and moving forward facing daily challenges are different things. Nishant Kumar has seen power closely, but right now his situation is like Abhimanyu of Mahabharata – and for Nishant, being able to maintain JDU and saving his father’s legacy is no less than successfully emerging from the Chakravyuh.
