Four people, including a man and his two brothers, have been arrested for stealing gold and silver jewelery worth crores of rupees from his father-in-law’s house in Nahtaur area in Bijnor. A police officer gave this information to a news agency. The police also arrested a goldsmith in this case and recovered stolen jewelery and cash.
This is how the theft was carried out
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Prakash Kumar said that the theft took place on February 25. Local businessman Santosh Verma had lodged a complaint on February 26 that his son-in-law Naveen Chauhan, who lived with the family. He was given intoxicants.
According to the complaint, Chauhan mixed intoxicants in the tea given to Verma, his wife and daughter. When they became unconscious, he stole a large amount of gold jewelery and 40 kg of silver. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered and investigation has been started.
Acting on a tip-off, police teams caught Chauhan, his brother Kunal and an associate Shivam Chauhan at Begrajpur bus stand on Saturday. Police also recovered 2.173 kg gold jewellery, 50 gram gold biscuits, 10 gram gold coin and Rs 2.80 in cash from them. Four intoxicating pills were also found with the accused.
Son-in-law confessed to the crime during interrogation
During interrogation, Chauhan confessed to the crime. He told the police that he stole the keys from under the pillow of his in-laws after they became unconscious. His brothers, Kunal and Shivam Chauhan were also involved in this plan. After this the police arrested a goldsmith Shivam Saini. Who had bought 23.5 kg of stolen silver for Rs 23 lakh. Police said that the bars were made by melting silver.
Saini had given Rs 5.30 lakh advance, gold biscuit and gold coin to Naveen as part of the transaction. Police further said that further legal action is underway.
