Pakistan’s opening batsman Sahibzada Farhan on Saturday broke a 12-year-old record in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. He took the record of scoring most runs in a single season, which till now was held by Team India’s star player Virat Kohli.
in Pallekele Sri Lanka Farhan achieved this big feat in the do or die Super-8 match against. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first. As soon as Farhan crossed the 38-run mark during his innings, he went ahead of Kohli’s 2014 record.
Broke Kohli’s record
Kohli had scored 319 runs in 6 matches in the 2014 T20 World Cup and his record remained intact for 12 years. Now Sahibzada Farhan has crossed the mark of 320 runs in the 2026 tournament.
Interestingly, in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs in a single T20 World Cup season, all five of the top-5 are Asian players.

It is noteworthy that in 2022, Babar Azam had come close to Kohli’s record by scoring 303 runs, but could not cross it. Now Farhan has created history by breaking the 12 year old record.
